THE UNBORN VICTIM
Mr. Stanisław Więcarzek told us the story of the murdered Turek family. On their farm they provided shelter to a man of Jewish descent.
– We spare your life, but you must tell us who was giving you shelter – the German lied while holding a rifle butt close to the head of the captured Jew. The man was shivering from the cold, though perhaps even more so because he was afraid. The whole life stood before his eyes.
– Turk! It was the Turek family who hid me – a terrified man chocked this words out, deluding himself that he would survive thanks to it. The German asked about the village where Poles lived, and then shot the Jew. It was December 1942. Mrs. Turkowa was just before the termination of pregnancy. The Germans had no mercy. They killed her and her husband. In the dead mother’s womb, the unborn child was still desperately grabbing the last moments of its life. It has no chance to see the world…
