FRIENDS' DAUGHTER

You are here:

With an eyewitness of the story, Janina Nowobilska née Wilczek, daughter of Antoni and Helena. We met to learn about the help she and her father provided to a woman of Jewish origin.

– Jasia – in a serious tone Antoni Wilczek addressed to almost 9-year-old daughter – you don’t even tell your mother about it. This is very important, you understand?
– the girl was nodding her head in the affirmative.
– In two days’ time, she will be gone, and during that time you will bring her food, okay? To the basement, where we keep the potatoes.
– She nodded affirmatively.

– And if anyone asks, you don’t know anything – he looked the girl in the eye with a harsh eye.
As promised, after two days the woman was gone. Antoni Wilczek took her to Cracow, where he handed her over to another person who helped her. This happened in 1945 in Łopuszna near Nowy Targ. The hiding Jewish woman came from the Rungier family who lived in nearby Ochotnica, where Janina’s father, Antoni Wilczek, originated.
