A FAMILY OF SEVEN.
With an eye-witness of the events, Mrs. Aniela Kowalczyk nee Domagała, daughter of Piotr and Anna. We met to talk about the help given by Aniela’s parents to a group of people of Jewish origin.
Aniela Kowalczyk and her family lived in the village of Dobra-Kolonia near Zawiercie. Her parents, Piotr and Anna Domagała, were sheltering seven people of Jewish descent in their house – three adults and four children. These people did not have an organized hiding place, but lived in a separate room. On November 14, 1942, as a result of a denunciation, the Germans carried out a raid on the Domagal house. They brought with them a neighbor who was also hiding Jews. The Germans led the adults out and started further searches. Aniela and her siblings ran after her parents into the courtyard, but the Germans forced them back home. At one point, an opportunity to escape came up and Maria and her neighbor managed to escape. Piotr, on the other hand, stayed in the yard because his leg was seriously ill. A moment later, he was murdered together with people of Jewish origin who were in hiding.
