A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - VALENTINA AND JOSEPH HOLKA
A Polish couple, the Holkas, had just lost their only child on foreign soil, in unfavourable conditions, doing forced labour in Germany. It was 1942, and Walentyna and Józef were grief-stricken. This was why, out of heartfelt and natural need for charity, they took in and sheltered a Jewish girl. Marysia stayed with the Holkas until the end of the war. Later, they returned to Poland and settled in Ujeździec Mały. Sometime after that, her family appeared and took her to Israel. Marysia kept writing letters to her foster parents for a long time.
