A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - STEFANIA AND LUDWIK JODŁOWSKI
The Jodłowskis were a young couple in 1935, when Ludwik was offered to work for the district office in Tenczynek, as a clerk in the population records office. Little did he know that some years later, this job would enable him to save lives. Tenczynek lay only 40 kilometres from the Auschwitz extermination camp. Since the first transports with Jews crossed the camp’s gates in 1940, only a small number of prisoners attempted escape. Ludwik Jodłowski prepared false IDs for them and used his house’s annexe to tend to the fugitives with his wife, Stefania. Sometimes these people would spend a couple of days there, sometimes a couple of months. Thanks to the Jodłowskis’ dedication and commitment, people have been saved.
