A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - PR. JOHN ZAWRZYCKI
He ministered to the parishioners of Rymanów and Krosno. He was also active with the Home Army, whom he served as a chaplain. Even before the war, he maintained friendly relations with the Jewish citizens, so when the German occupation began, many a Jewish family turned to him for help. He couldn’t say no to anyone, so he accepted and helped everyone. He issued false birth and baptism certificates. He brought three Jewish women to the train station; they went to Warsaw from there, and all of them survived. One of them was Giza, who after the war went on to work as a secretary for president Bolesław Bierut. The priest was awarded the “Righteous Among the Nations” title for the services rendered to the Jewish people.
