A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - PIOTR I JÓZEF GOŁĄB

You are here:

The Gołąb brothers were born in the village of Wawrzeńczyce near Cracow. Raised in the teachings of the Catholic Church, they had a beautiful childhood. Close to nature, animals, among fields and meadows, they were having an idyllic life under the loving wings of their parents. When they grew up, Józef stayed on the farm, while Piotr left for Cracow, where he set up his own bakery, got married and had a son. During the war, the Gołąb brothers were helping Jews, each in his own way. Piotr was selling bread to Jews, while Józef was hiding them in farm buildings. No one denounced Józef but Piotr wasn’t that lucky. On 5 May 1942, he was arrested and deported to Auschwitz for trading with Jews. Two months later he was murdered in a gas chamber.
