A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - MONICA DAMM NEE BRUDNY
The Bermanns house in Skoczów stood next to their mill on the Vistula river, near the train station. Everyone in the vicinity knew the Bermanns and their grand villa, often visited by distinguished guests such as the Kossaks or Gustaw Morcinek. They were wealthy, but also very generous. A long time before the war, between 1926 and 1934, Monika Damm served as the governess of the little Ruth, Ernst and Eugenia Bermann’s daughter. They grew close. The war scattered them to the winds, making contact impossible, but Monika didn’t leave her old friends alone in their hour of need. She supplied food and medicine to the old Rosa Bermann, who wound up in the Myszków ghetto. Ernst, Eugenia, and Ruth managed to escape.
