A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - MARTA AND WLADYSLAW MIAZGOWICZ
A hot, stuffy July day in 1942 in the Żabno village. The muggy air makes the heat even more oppressive. Two sisters, Regina and Helena Schreiber, are taking advantage of the summer. They’re hiding in the hay from the Germans that are currently hunting for Jews. Scared, embracing one another, they are found by Władysław Miazgowicz’s father-in-law. He recognises one of them as a schoolmate of his granddaughter, Marta. He takes the girls home. The Miazgowiczes don’t hesitate a moment before deciding to shelter the girls that are in a similar age to their own children, that are innocent and defenceless. They hide them in the cellar of their house until they can find a safer hideout. This is how the Schreiber sisters survived until the liberation.
