A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - MARIANA AND FRANCIS RZEMYK
They returned to Poland in 1921, following a couple of years spent in the United States. They came back to a recently-freed Poland out of the sense of longing, love for their country, and a strong need to raise their four children surrounded by Polish language, culture, and patriotism. They worked hard while abroad and obtained significant wealth which they then spent freely, helping rebuild their country. They paid for churches, schools, and all the institutions that could benefit the local community. They were honoured citizens of Tarnowo Podgórne. The occupation was a time of increased activity for the Rzemyks. They saved members of Polish intelligentsia of Jewish descent – physicians, lawyers, teachers, and judges. They also provided food for the inmates of the Dachau camp, thus saving numerous human beings.
