A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - MARIA AND FRANCISZEK WITH CHILDREN
“Franciszek and his son Józef were going to nearby villages to buy food. Maria was cooking and doing laundry for us, and her daughter Stanisława was coming like an angel almost every night, bringing us some modest food they could spare” – this is how one of the Reigelhaupt family survivors will recall it years later. Before living with the Jarosz family, the Reigelhaupt were hiding in a forest. A harsh winter didn’t let them stay outdoors anymore. Moshe, the senior and head of a family of 12, turned for help to the Jarosz family, who were devout Catholics, guided by precepts of faith and humanitarianism. They put love for a fellow man above their own safety, which is why they were hiding, helping and supporting a Jewish family for two years. They were awarded the Righteous Among the Nations Medal for their merits. The entire Reigelhaupt family survived and emigrated to Israel after the war.
