A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - LEOKADIA JAROMIRSKA
Leokadia became a single woman – her husband was sent to Auschwitz as a political prisoner in 1940. To support herself, she worked in a German factory. One day, while going to work, she heard a wailing. Next to the monastery wall a baby girl was lying. Her parents left her there in the hope that someone would save her. They themselves returned to the ghetto. Leokadia – disregarding her own poverty – took the baby in and loved her with all her heart.
