A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - KRYSTYNA MOSKALIK
Krystyna lost her beloved mother during the bombardment of Warsaw. Stricken by despair and fear, she left the capital city and went towards Kraków, to Sieciechowice. She was joined there by her father and brother. Soon, in November of 1942, Roza Herzer (later called Janka Górnicka) escaped the Lwów ghetto. She was a pre-war acquaintance of Krystyna’s mother. To honour her dead mother’s memory and out of basic humanity, the woman took Roza in, providing her with shelter, care, and education. Roza stayed with the Moskaliks until the end of the war and in 1946 went to the United States.
