A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - JULIET AND JOSEPH

You are here:

Parents of the ten-year-old Zuzia wanted to save her from the ghetto and put her in the care of an acquaintance living near Warsaw, while they themselves joined the partisans. Unfortunately, soon after the Warsaw Uprising broke out, Zuzia’s guardian died. His wife, fearing reprisals, took the girl out of the city, to the village of Gomunice, to the Ciepłowskis. They had no qualms about accepting Zuzia under their roof. They took care of her with as much care as they afforded the three children of their own. The girl survived until the liberation and in 1946 left for Paris, where her family was discovered.
