The Galases’ home in Strzeniówka was surrounded by trees on all sides. The closest post of the German police was located in Nadarzyn, some three kilometres away from the village. The Germans were afraid of the local partisans, so they didn’t visit these environs often. Józek Jas was a Jew that lived in Strzeniówki all his life, and was not afraid of the Germans. He often visited the Galases and Rachela Birennbaum, who was hiding with them since 1941.

This was love at first sight. As it turned out later, it was also a strong and lasting bond that lasted a lifetime. Rachela survived the occupation thanks to the Galases and married Józio. In 1948, they went to Israel together. They kept contact with the Galases for as long as they lived.
