A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - JOSEPHINE AND JOSEPH JANUSZ
The four-year-old Stefan wound up in the Lwów ghetto together with his mother, Wera, following the death of his father, a local lawyer by the name of Seweryn Feurstein. Wera had friends and acquaintances outside the ghetto. She knew she’d not last long in such conditions with a little boy, so she contacted Józefa, who managed to sneak into the ghetto and get the little Stefan outside its walls. The boy stayed with the Januszes for a couple of weeks, until Wera Feurstein managed to escape the ghetto herself. Józefa helped Wera and her son get out of Lwów.
