Maciej Daniel knew he could count on Jurek. They had known each other since childhood. As soon as Maciej managed to escape from the ghetto, he directed his first steps precisely to his schoolmate. And he was not disappointed. It was also thanks to Jerzy that Maciej’s cousin Roma Silberstein’s escape from the ghetto was successful. She hid in the Pole’s apartment for two weeks, after which – with documents produced by Jerzy – she took an official job and survived the war.
