A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - JANINA SZOSTAKIEWICZ
“Come with me, I’ll lead you to where you must go. Your mother sent me” – said Janka Szostakiewicz to a 14-year old Janina Kroch before leading her to a safer place. The one in which she’d been hiding caught the attention of the Green Policemen. From then on – this was in 1943 – Ms Szostakiewicz would take care of the young Jewish girl. In order to ensure her safety, she’d periodically find a new hiding place for her in Lwów. Thanks to this, the girl survived until liberation.
