– A baby girl, Mrs Nela. Beautiful and strong,” the midwife congratulated the young mother. It was 2 August 1944. The girl was born in hiding because her mother was Jewish. Six months before her termination, Nela Skubicka found shelter with her sister’s friend Stasia Nieznańska and her husband. The Poles then lived with their two daughters in their beloved Lviv at 48 Mostowa Street.
