A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - IRENA TRZCIŃSKA-FRÜHLING
– Irciu, they’re taking away our flat. The Germans are taking over the whole tenement – Anna’s voice broke down. – You will stay with us, in the meantime we will find a safer place – Irena assured her friend. Together with her mother, Jadwiga Trzcińska, they organised all kinds of help for persecuted Jews. They sheltered Elżbieta and Ida Fenyo – Anna’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law – in their Cracow flat until 1944. Jadwiga paid the price with her ordeal in the German camp Bergen-Belsen. After the war, the Polish women hosted Anna and Ida, who had survived the camps, for one more year.
