A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - IGOR MAŁANKIEWICZ
All the Jews from Sambor were driven to the Lviv ghetto. Artur Sandauer, a Classical scholar and a teacher, was locked there with his whole family – father, mother, grandfather, and sister. Seeing the extreme poverty, starvation, and the coming death of the ghetto inhabitants, a former pupil of Sandauer’s helped them cross to the Aryan side. They were then led to Igor Małankiewicz, who prepared a hideout for the whole family behind a wall of his house. The conditions were harsh, but renewed hope allowed them to survive until the war ended.
