A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - FR JAN ZAWRZYCKI
He served as a priest in Rymanów and Krosno. He was involved in the activities of the Home Army, of which he was a chaplain. Even before the war he had friendly relations with the Jewish residents, therefore when the German occupation began, many Jewish families came to the priest for help. He was unable to refuse anyone and accepted and helped everyone. He issued false certificates of birth and baptism. He transported three Jewish women to the railway station and from there they left for Warsaw. All of them survived. One of them was Giza, who after the war worked in the office of President Bolesław Bierut. For his work on behalf of the Jewish people, the priest was honoured with the title „Righteous Among the Nations”.
