A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - FR DOMINIK WAWRZYNOWICZ
The oldest of nine siblings, young Dominik felt an immense responsibility for his family even as a teen. They lived in the Eastern Borderlands, in Włodzimierzec. A couple of years later, having been ordained, Father Dominik Wawrzynowicz became first a curate and then the parish priest in the St. Joseph the Spouse Church in this very town. From then on, his zeal for taking care of his family became even stronger, especially during the Second World War. Two of his brothers were murdered in Katyń. Love and responsibility for his fellow man became the overriding goal of Father Wawrzynowicz and he dedicated his life to helping others. Szlom Efelbaum was one of many Jews saved by the priest, as he managed to survive until liberation by hiding in the presbytery. “I wouldn’t live had it not been for the priest” – Szlom would say when sending yearly cards and parcels to Wawrzynowicz as a token of his appreciation.
