A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - BOGUMIŁA MALEC

You are here:

When war broke out, Erna Rosentein was in Lwów. Following the establishment of the ghetto, she and her parents became locked inside. In 1942, sure that staying there would mean death, they decided to escape. They lived in different places under assumed names. A shmaltsovnik shot Erna’s parents as they were changing apartments, and Erna herself was gravely wounded, but managed to escape and hide. She only found solace after meeting Bogumiła Malec, who provided her with documentation and a job as a governess. Thus, she survived until the end of the war. Both ladies became painters and remained in close contact with one another.
