At the beginning of the chain of rescuing 6-year-old Janina Grünbaum was Henryk Zięba. It was he who rescued her from a liquidated ghetto in Sosnowiec. He was friends with her father – executed in Auschwitz. But he could not hide the girl. – 'Armela, I know it’s hard for you yourself, your husband in captivity, two little ones at home, but something must be done,’ he turned to his friend. The Polish woman thought, applied for documents for the girl in her maiden name and asked her friends to take care of her. She introduced the girl as her illegitimate daughter.
