76TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF MARIANNA DŻYG, WŁADYSŁAW SZUK, WACŁAW KRYŃSKI, ANNA AND WINCENTY BUZOWICZ
MARIANNA DŻYG AND WŁADYSŁAW SZUK
August 1, 1943, full summer. Grain is already harvested, the meadows are ruled by the tansy, and the goldenrod shyly leans out the yellowing heads. There is a lot of work to be done. Especially in the countryside. But not for Marianna Dżyg and her son-in-law Władysław Szuk from Mokre. On that day German military policemen came to them and did what they were perfect at: for hiding Jews they shot both Poles in the courtyard in front of the house. Marianne was 63 years old, and her son-in-law was 35.
WACŁAW KRYŃSKI
On the same day, August 1, 1943, the same „murderous” idea came from the Łosice gendarmes. For helping Jews they shot a 46-year-old farmer from Nowosielce – Wacław Kryński.
ANNA AND WINCENTY BUZOWICZOWIE
What a joy it was! First nerves and enormous stress: will the escape plan succeed, will both women manage to escape from the ghetto… And finally this long-awaited moment: at the door of Anna and Wincent Buzowicz’s house in Kozienice stood Sala Rubinowicz and Elsa Schwarzman – tired, terrified, hungry. – Are you really going to be able to hide us? – They asked in a begging tone. – It won’t be easy, but we will organize it somehow – the answer was given. And in fact, from now on, women have been living with young spouses. However, it did not last long. Somebody denouce that. On December 10, 1942, German military police knocked on the door of Poles. Anna and Wincenta were taken to prison in Radom. Less than four months later, on April 3, 1943, the Special Court in Radom sentenced both the Buzowicz family and the two Jewish women to death. The sentence was executed on August 17, 1943. Anna was then 27 years old, while Wincenty was 31.
