During the German occupation, Franciszka Abramowicz, a resident of Międzyrzec Podlaski (Lubelskie Province), sheltered her Jewish neighbour, Sender Dyszel, in her house. In moments of danger, the man would hide in the cellar. After being denounced, Sender moved to the nearby forest, where Franciszka brought him food. When the danger had passed, the man returned to the woman’s house, where he lived to see the end of the war.
The Yad Vashem Institute, on 14 January 1987, honoured Franciszka Abramowicz with the title „Righteous, among the Nations”. In 2017, the woman was posthumously awarded honorary citizenship of the State of Israel.
