Memory And Identity

Zygmunt Ochociński (born 27 April 1913), son of Aleksander and Marcjanna née Majchrzak, lived with his parents in Aleksandrów Kujawski, where he was born. Prior to the war he graduated from a military school in Grudziadz, and then worked in Toruń in the Military Complementary Command. During the September campaign he fought at Modlin.

In the winter of 1939 he and his whole family were displaced to Sędziszów. His niece tells us: „The whole family was displaced from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Sędziszów, Kielce district, in the winter of 1939. There both the uncle and my uncle’s father, my grandfather, worked – my grandfather was a lineman, and my uncle worked for the Sędziszów municipality. Because he was educated, before the war he had experience with various documents”. Thanks to this, he was able to produce documents also for Jews. However, at the beginning of 1941 he was arrested. „The Jew who received the documents from my uncle was caught by a German and explained from whom he received them. The Germans detained my uncle and deported him to Auschwitz, camp number 19116. He died there on 5 November 1941”.
