Helena and Kazimierz Dąbrowski, together with their children, Natalia (born 1922), Krystyna (born 1925), Stefan and Marysia (born 1937) lived in the village of Świdry Stare. It was a village inhabited by Poles. The Jews lived in nearby Piekiełko, where they engaged in trade and services. There, the Brzeziński couple and their two daughters owned a large shop, which the family had to abandon in order to save their own lives. The Brzeziński couple found shelter in Świdry Stare, in the Dąbrowski barn. Despite the threat of repression, Helena and Kazimierz dared to hide Jews for some time.
