THE BRIDE-TO-BE
Mr. Krzysztof Iskra told us the story of Karolina Witczak from the village of Rosołówka near Staszów. Mrs. Karolin was hiding three people of Jewish descent in the attic of her house.
– Mom, I’m getting married,” her son announced to Karolina Witczak. It was already after the war, and the girl that Mrs Witczakowa was hiding in the attic was already a young lady, one that caught the eye and heart of her son. Tears filled Karolina’s eyes. The memory of long years of poverty and terror, of life in constant fear was still present. Her future daughter-in-law, along with two other Jews, hid at her house in Rosołówka near Staszów. It was so until someone denounced it to the local thugs. Only the young girl was saved. She was first hidden in a forest dugout and Karolina supplied her with everything she needed there. A bit later, local Poles started to shelter the Jewish girl in their homes.
