Michał and Maria Barowie (née Szylar) lived in Markowa (Podkarpackie province) during World War II. Parents of five children (including Stefania Bar-Dźwierzyńska, born on 15 September 1922). They hid the three-person Jewish family of Lorbenfeld: Chaim with his wife Rozalia and daughter Pepka. The Lorbenfeld family fortunately survived the German occupation and left for the USA.
