Leokadia Daglis - murdered for helping Jews
Place
Mieżańce
People
Daglis Leokadia
Leokadia Daglis lived in the village of Mieżańce near the town of Ejszyszki (former USSR) and helped Jews hiding in the forest. They came from the village of Radun (Lida district). Leokadia’s house was situated near the aforementioned forest. Jews often came to Mrs Daglis and asked for food. Leokadia did not refuse to help them.
In March 1942, during another meeting between Leokadia and the hiding Jews, the Germans arrived. The Jews began to flee and, in that haste, left the child with the woman. A sub-division of Gestapo gendarmes, arriving under Kleitner’s command, executed both of them. The execution was carried out under the pretext of providing emergency aid to the Jews and hiding a Jewish child.
