During World War II, Antoni and Franciszka Balon lived in the village of Rajsk (Podlaskie Voivodeship), to which they had been resettled from Pławy (Małopolskie Voivodeship). The Balon family gave shelter to Eugenia Halbreich, a Jewish refugee from a sub-camp in Rajsk.
