A CARD FROME THE CALENDAR - ZUZANNA PUŁAWSKA
In the letters that Zuzanna wrote to her family from Stanisławów prison, there was a lot of hope mixed with rationalisation of the situation she found herself in and fear for the future of her children. “My dear! God’s judgements are inscrutable. However, should God call me, I ask you to take care of my children, like a father. You will learn about my death from Mother”, she wrote from her cell to her brother Józef and his family. In March 1944, in her last letter, she wrote: “Recite sometime the Angelus and the Eternal Rest in my intention. Don’t despair”. Two months later she was murdered. Germans took the young mother’s life because, disregarding orders, she gave shelter to little Moshe, who miraculously survived the liquidation of the Kołomyja ghetto.
