A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - TADEUSZ REWILAK
In the summer of 1942, Nachum, Jakub and Cwi Weinberger were deported from Rymanów to the Płaszów concentration camp. They were experienced carpenters and were therefore employed in a German factory outside the camp. This is how they met a carpentry shop owner Tadeusz Rewilak, with whom they started friendship. For the first year things were quite tolerable, Germans spared brothers’ lives as they could still work, but then July 1943 arrived and German guards began to treat prisoners mercilessly. The Weinberger brothers decided to escape from the camp. The only right direction was house of Tadeusz Rewilak. Their intuition didn’t fail them, Tadeusz took them under his roof, gave them shelter in the attic, fed and cared for them when the eldest brother fell ill with typhus. After a few months, under favourable circumstances, Tadeusz Rewilak helped the Weinberger escape from Poland. For his selfless and humanitarian attitude, Tadeusz Rewilak was awarded the Medal of Righteous Among the Nations.
