A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - MARIANNA ŚWIDER
“Marianna, thank you but meat is bad for me, pork fat too, thank you, I won’t eat it”, Stasia replied every time Marianna prepared a pork meal. No more words had to be said for Marianna to realise that she had invited a Jewish woman under her roof. She wasn’t afraid, she never doubted the need to help. Stasia valued Marianna’s restraint and Marianna didn’t cross Stasia’s comfort zone and respected her secrecy. They managed to become friends through long years of war. When the war turmoil ceased, Stasia left Poland. After a few years, Marianna received a letter from Israel.
