A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - KS. IGNACY ŻYCIŃSKI
In her memoir, Sofia Zisman wrote: “Risk and responsibility taken by rescuers were the greatest, the most perfect proof of the noblest human values”. In her will, written in 1976, Sofia mentioned her saviour by name. Father Ignacy Życiński – it was he whom Zisman wrote about – was a parish priest of the parish of Trójca near Zawichost since 1930. He remained so until 1948. The diary of the rescued Sofia Zisman says that, except for her, he also rescued Itka Berek. He was hiding both girls in the vicarage, in the attic and cellars in Trójca. He was awarded the Medal of the Righteous Among the Nations for saving lives of other human beings.
