A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - ANTONI PLEZIA
Before the war, Antoni Plezia had been mayor of the village of Okonim for twelve years. Therefore, responsibility for his people was filling his blood. The war time further strengthened bonds with residents, everyone tried to survive and was helpful and kind to each other. Doors to cottages were usually open, especially in spring and summer, because everyone knew each other and was welcome. On a chilly April morning, a man walked into Plezia’s modest house, hungry and exhausted. He said nothing, but neither did Antoni ask anything, as everything was clear. Antoni fed the newcomer, watered him, gave him warmer clothes and offered his guest accommodation for the night. With gratitude in his eyes, in silence, the Jew benefited from help.
