A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - ANNA MILCZANOWSKA
“You are my friends, when I needed help, you helped me, now you are in need, so I will help you, your origin doesn’t matter here”, said Anna Milczanowska to her recent employer Ms Langdorf. They both fell into each other’s arms. Before the war, Anna had been working as chef in the Langdorf family’s restaurant. When the persecution of Jewish residents intensified in Cracow, Anna, driven by loyalty and responsibility, found a hiding place for the Langdorf. She organised false documents for all the family members so that they could work as Poles under a false name. In her tiny flat, Anna was hiding Estera, the eldest of the Langdorf family, throughout the occupation. Anna Milczanowska was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations Medal by the Yad Vashem Institute for her merits.
