A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - ANDRZEJ TABACZYŃSKI
“Honour and responsibility, son”, these words, uttered by his father, solidified like a seal in the memory of young Jędrek at the time. For him it was his dad, and for others it was commander colonel Tadeusz Tabaczyński. Jędrek had great respect for his father, he saw his sacrifice for the country and great responsibility for his family. He always wanted to be like him. Brave and manly. Jędrek was still attending primary school when the World War II broke out. His teacher was Maria Rosenblat, a Jewish woman, adored by her pupils. When his beloved teacher was forced to move behind the walls of a newly establishment Warsaw ghetto, he decided to show maturity and courage; this was what he had been taught and this was what he wanted to be. At the age of 12, with a parcel under his arm, he would jump on a tram that was passing through the ghetto, jump off at the ghetto, carry a food parcel to miss Maria, and then jump on a return tram that was leaving for the Aryan side.
