Stanisław Banaś was born on 16 July 1897 in Wiśnicz Stary. The son of Franciszek and Anna (née Kaczmarczyk). During World War II he lived in Wiśnicz Stary (Małopolskie Voivodeship), of which he was the mayor. He was involved in helping a two-year-old girl of Jewish origin, who was taken care of by Wojciech Gicala. For this help Wojciech Gicala was murdered, together with the hidden child.
