Jerzy and Helena (née Kicińska) Arwanitti lived in Warsaw during World War II. They provided shelter in their flat to a Jewish woman, Rina Karwasser, and her mother, whom they had known before the war. They also provided shelter for Leopold Popper and his son, who had managed to escape from the Warsaw ghetto.

Jerzy and Helena Arwanitti were awarded the title Righteous Among the Nations in 1968.

Jerzy Arwanitti passed away on 13th June 1975.
