Six-year-old Sophie and her three-year-old brother – still shaken by the memory of barking dogs ransacking the flat and German brutes turning everything upside down – huddled together, waiting for their parents to return. Little did they know that it was for a slice of bread that their mother had passed through the net of the Kielce ghetto that they would never see their parents again. Stanisława, camp number 35079, perished in Auschwitz after a year. Jan, camp number 33141, spent six months in the same camp. He died on 29.03.1945 as a prisoner of Mauthausen.
