A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - EWA KARCZMARCZYK AND SONS: TADEUSZ, STEFAN AND BOLESŁAW
On 12 September 1942, the Germans were liquidating the Stoczek Łukowski ghetto. They chased all the Jews out from their homes and marched them to Parysów. On September 27th, the Jews were taken to the Treblinka death camp. Icchak Wróblewicz, his daughters, Aida and Chaja Szczupakiewicz, as well as the latter’s husband, Mosze, and their small sons, Izrael and Józef, had escaped the ghetto just before the Germans came. Their group of six had no chance of survival, they needed help and shelter. In a small cottage in the village of Brzóska, without any amenities, there lived Ewa Kaczmarczyk with her three sons. Out of Christian love, wanting nothing in return, they prepared six hideouts for the ghetto fugitives. In January of 1943, the Germans searched the village. Mosze and little Izrael tried to escape, but their attempt was doomed. They were killed by rifle bullets and died on the spot. The Germans didn’t find the other hideouts, so the remaining members of the family survived until liberation and then emigrated to Israel.
