A CARD FROM THE CALENDAR - ANIELA AND TOMASZ PASIKOW
Aniela Pasik’s teahouse in Iwaniski, Świętokrzyskie province, was a hub for the local mixed-nationality society before the war. Everyone felt at home here. The hostess tended to her guests, regardless of whether they were Polish or Jewish. This was of no importance in the teahouse, as this was a place to meet, talk, and relax. The teahouse was well-known among the locals, who valued its hostess’ hospitality. Aniela’s husband was a forester and knew every corner of “his” woods. Once the Second World War broke out and the repression of the Jewish populace intensified, the Pasiks became a well-organised team specialising in helping Jews. Aniela learned in her teahouse who needed help, and then, under the cover of darkness, led the Jews to the woods with Tomasz, where he’d prepared special hideouts. They stayed there until the war ended.
